Baraka Zambia Volunteer Trip

The Challenge

Be part of our team and join Baraka for this volunteer trip to Zambia. We start the trip in Nsobe assisting at the Baraka Learning Centre, then move onto Kabwe where we spend a day at one of the Baraka-supported schools nearby. From Kabwe we travel to Lusaka where we spend some time with some of Baraka's sponsored kids on the annual day out. Our next part of the adventure is the canoeing safari on the Lower Zambezi, before returning to Lusaka for our flights home.

Day 1 (Sunday 13th September): Arrive in Ndola - transfer to Nsobe
We arrive in Ndola today and transfer to Nsobe Camp (approx. 1 hour 45 minutes' drive) where we will stay in permanent tented chalets tonight and tomorrow. This evening we will enjoy a welcome dinner and have a briefing about the days ahead. Meals: Dinner

Days 2-4 (Monday 14th September - Wednesday 16th September): Baraka Learning Centre
We will spend the next three days visiting the Baraka Learning Centre which assists over 20 rural schools and thousands of pupils. On Tuesday afternoon we will transfer to Kabwe Lodge where we will stay for the following three nights. Meals: Breakfast daily, dinner Monday.

Day 5 (Thursday 17th September): Kabwe
Today we will spend the day helping at Baraka-supported schools in the area. We stay overnight at Kabwe Lodge. Meals: Breakfast.

Day 6 (Friday 18th September): Kabwe - Upeme - Lusaka
Today we leave Kabwe and travel to Lusaka, stopping to visit Upeme School en route. Upon arrival in Lusaka we will check into Eureka Lodge for the next two nights. Meals: Breakfast.

Day 7 (Saturday 19th September) - Sponsored kids' day
Today is the annual sponsored kids' day. This is an educational but fun day for all the kids, and you will be asked to help out with games and lessons. For the children the day will be one of the highlights of their year and is a great opportunity for you to interact with them. Meals: Dinner.

Day 8 (Sunday 20th September) - Lusaka to Chirundu
This morning we travel to Wagtail Lodge, on the banks of the Zambezi, where we spend the night camping. The Zambezi is home to a huge variety of wildlife and from your campsite hippos and other wildlife can often be seen. Meals: Dinner.

Days 9-10 (Monday 21st September - Tuesday 22nd September) - Lower Zambezi Canoeing
The next two days are spent on the river enjoying the delights of this spectacular natural landscape. We will canoe downstream to our camp which will be set up close to the riverbank, or on islands in the river. Along the way we will take advantage of the opportunities to spot wild animals; elephants and hippos are plentiful. It is also possible to spot impala, kudu, waterbuck, warthog, crocodile and buffalo. The canoeing does not require any specific experience, just a good overall level of fitness and a willingness to give it a go. Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Day 11 (Wednesday 23rd September) Chirundu - Lusaka
This morning we return to Wagtails Lodge for lunch, travelling either by boat or overland. This afternoon we drive back to Lusaka airport (approx. 4-5 hours) in time for our evening flights home. Meals: Breakfast and lunch.
